I didn't bother taking a photo, but it turns out that the west laundy pole was set right beside the corpse of a previous laundry pole, and the one was wedging the other in. I had to break up the concrete on the old pole to get the newer one loose. Here you can see a bunch of the chunks of the older anchor.
